The Festival

Durga Puja is more than just a religious festival; it is a celebration of art, culture, and community. For five days, the city of Kolkata transforms into the world's largest open-air art gallery, with thousands of temporary structures (pandals) erected to house the Goddess Durga.

UNESCO Recognition

In 2021, "Durga Puja in Kolkata" was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It marks a momentous recognition of the festival's role in bringing people together regardless of their background, and its status as a massive public art installation.
